There are 2 types of UK student visas

  • Short-term study UK VISA
  • Tier 4 student UK VISA

Short-term Study UK VISA

As the name suggests it is for a shorter period and a shorter course. 

This visa will allow you to study in the UK for 6 months, or 11 months if you are studying an English language course.

How to qualify for a Short-term Study UK VISA

  • You need acceptance from the university that you are accepted on a course in the UK at a recognized place of study
  • You can take care of your financial requirements and you have enough money to cover the costs of your study and the cost of your living for the duration of your studies.
  • You have enough to pay for your return journey.

Documents required for Short-term Study UK VISA

  • Passport
  • Bank statements or payslips
  • Travel itinerary
  • Accommodation details
  • The letter of acceptance from the place you plan to study, on letterhead stating the name of the course, the duration, and the cost.
  • CAS reference number – Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies
  • Documents used for obtaining the CAS
  • Passport size photos
  • Medical test results, applicable for few destinations

 It will cost around £95 for a 6-month visa and £180 for an 11-month for short-term study visa.

 On a short- term study visa, you cannot work, bring family members or extend the visa.

Tier 4 UK Student UK VISA

If you are above 16 years and intend to study in the UK for your higher education, this Tier-4 visa is for you. The majority of international students from outside the EU apply with this student visa only.

How to qualify for Tier 4 UK Student UK VISA 

  • You are selected for a course in any university
  • You can understand English, including reading, writing and speaking.
  • You can take care of your financial requirements and you have enough money to cover the costs of your study and the cost of your living for the duration of your studies.
  • If you are under 18 years you will need to provide the contact details of a parent or guardian

Documents required for Tier 4 UK Student UK VISA 

  • Passport
  • Bank statements or payslips
  • Funding proofs
  • Medical certificates in some cases
  • CAS reference number – Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies
  • Documents used for obtaining the CAS
  • Passport size photos
  • The score for secure English language test (SELT). You must meet the CEFR level B2 of language proficiency if you’re studying at a degree level or higher.

Tier 4 UK Student UK VISA  

You must apply for the visa 3 months before your course starts because the decision from the university will take about 3 weeks time to reach you. It costs £340 to apply for the visa.

You can arrive in the UK for up to 1 month before your course starts if the course lasts more than 6 months. 

On a Tier 4 Visa, you can work most jobs and can apply to extend your stay.

How and where to apply for UK VISA

  1. As a student, you will need to register and create your account on the official UK Visa website.
  2. After the registration process is complete after filling your online application form, you will need to print and sign your completed form. 
  3. You must use the online appointment calendar to book an appointment at the visa application center. 
  4. Once your application process is complete, you will receive an email in your registered email id with your application number
